Roy Crampton wins National Award

Roy Crampton has been awarded Officials Coach/Mentor of the Year at a prestigious national ceremony held by Sports Officials UK (SOUK).

The Nottingham Northern Swimming Club member was nominated following his unreserved ongoing commitment to officiating and mentoring young officials.

Crampton, who earlier in the month was the national winner of the ASA 2014 Services to Officials Development Award, said: “To win this award is unbelievable. It was a shock to be nominated and then to go up against nominees from Netball and Cricket and win, well I didn’t think I had a chance.

“For a swimming official to be recognised at this level is wonderful for the sport. I’m still smiling now.”

Crampton has been involved in volunteering for 37 years, both as an official and also as a mentor to new officials. He is committed to ensuring the future of swimming galas within Nottinghamshire by encouraging parents and those from outside of swimming to get involved has been so successful that Nottingham Northern SC is now able to provide officials to other clubs in the area.
