Swim For Fitness
13/09/2017 Get InvolvedSwimming is a great way to improve your health and fitness, no matter how active you already are.
Even a gentle swim can burn more than 200 Kcal in half an hour. A fast front crawl can burn as many calories as an 8mph run!
If you’re not a calorie counter, the benefits go on. From relaxing your mind and body, to lowering your risk of disease and increasing your energy levels.
Why Swim? The Facts!
- Swimming can support up to 9 per cent of the body’s weight in the water. So whether you have a long term injury or illness, or simply a sprained ankle, swimming is a great way to stay fit.
- Thirty minutes of hard work in the pool equates to 45 minutes of the same level on land! Essentially, the fact that swimming is such a full body workout means you’re getting a lot more out of it than walking, running or cycling.
- At least one in six people in Britain suffer from depression at any one time. Rhythmic and aerobic forms of exercise such as swimming can improve psychological well-being. Research has found swimming lowers stress levels, reduces anxiety and depression and improves your sleeping patterns.
