Water Polo Inter-Regionals

An East Midlands team of ten girls travelled to Liverpool for the  U14 Inter-Regional Championships on 8-9 November 2014.

There were seven competing teams split into two leagues with each team playing the others in their leagues on the Saturday with finals on the Sunday. The East Midlands competed in a league with North West Thunder, The East Angels and London Sharks.

The first game for the East Midlands was against the East Angels. After a poor start the girls fought back well to finish strongly and ended up drawing 12-12. Their next game was against the London Sharks. The girls were always in control, playing with discipline throughout and won the game 13-9. The final game of the day was against the North West, but unfortunately lost 16-3.

Sunday was finals day and because the team finished third in the group they only had one game against Scotland to decide 5th / 6th position. The whole team played well and again controlled the game from start to finish and ended as the winners by 19-2.

The team members were: Rebecca Goose, Pia Tonks, Sancha Tonks, Amelia Peters, Abi Martin-Hicks, Alex Barnett, Vicky Patrick, Charlotte Smith, Maddy Barnes (Saturday only) and Eve Tuckwood (Sunday only), Jim Caulfield (Team Coach), Colin Robins (Assistant Coach) and Sarah Dunsbee (Team Manager).

A special mention must go to Rebecca Goose who, in spite of never having played in goal before, volunteered to be in goal and did a great job to help the team out. Amelia Peters was the team’s top scorer and was also voted as the team’s most valued player.
