The academy gives trainee teachers the chance to embark on a career as a swimming teacher for only £79, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000.

Successful applicants who join the academy will complete their Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course and Level 2 Teaching Swimming Qualifications.

We support trainees through their training journey with membership and free access to our introduction to swimming strokes online CPDs.

In between the courses, there is a period of volunteering with a potential employer to gain practical experience. Trainees also benefit from CPDs to help them develop as well as getting expert advice and support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipt to teach.

Teaching Swimming is an active and rewarding role. Work hours are generally part-time; 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm weekdays, and weekend mornings from 8:00 am – 2.00 pm. For these roles, there may be the opportunity to work across several leisure centres, including Flitwick Leisure Centre, The Dunstable Centre and Houghton Regis Leisure Centre. Once qualified, the successful trainees will be employed as swimming teachers by SLL.
