The academy gives trainee teachers the chance to embark on a career as a swimming teacher for only £79, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000.

Successful applicants who join the academy will complete their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualifications.

We support trainees through their training journey with membership and free access to our introduction to swimming strokes online CPDs.

In between the courses, there is a period of volunteering with a potential employer to gain practical experience. Trainees also benefit from CPDs to help them develop as well as getting expert advice and support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipped to teach.

Teaching Swimming is an active and rewarding role, you will need to be flexible, reliable, and able to work various hours. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals who can succeed in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for our customers and colleagues.

Once qualified successful trainees will be employed as swimming teachers by Places Leisure on a casual or part-time basis working at;

• Harborne Pool and Fitness Centre, Lordswood Road, Harborne, Birmingham, B17 9QS
• Sparkhill Pool and Fitness Centre, 641 Stratford Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham, B11 4EA

Academy Itinerary

Applications close on 3rd May 2020 and those shortlisted will be interviewed on 13th and 14th May 2020.

There will be a meet and greet where you will meet current members of the Places Leisure Team.  Times TBC

•  SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course dates -13th, 20th, 27th June, and 4th July 2020
•  SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming course dates – TBC
