Apply to join the academy

If you want to become a swimming teacher and enjoy an active and rewarding role with Tendring District Council,  then this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Apply now to start your journey to becoming a swimming teacher!

Our academy gives you the chance to embark on a career as a swimming teacher for only £79, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000.

Successful applicants who join the academy will complete their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualifications.

We support trainees through their training journey with membership and free access to our introduction to swimming strokes online e-learning.

In between the courses, there is a period of volunteering with a potential employer to gain practical experience. Trainees also benefit from CPDs to help them develop as well as getting expert advice and support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipped to teach.

Teaching Swimming is an active and rewarding role. Work hours are generally part-time; 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm weekdays, and weekends from 8:00 am to 4.00 pm.

Once qualified successful trainees will be employed as swimming teachers by Tendring District Council on a casual or part-time basis at:

  • Clacton Leisure Centre, Vista Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, CO15 6DB

There may be an option to work at Tendering District Councils other pools including Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles and Walton-on-the-Naze Lifestyles.

Academy Itinerary

Applications close on 30th November 2020.

Phone interviews will be taking place on the 12th and 23rd November.

You don’t need any prior qualifications to apply as you will be supported through your training.

Once you have joined the Academy, you will commence your swimming teacher journey, starting with the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course. You will have approximately 5 hours worth of e-learning to complete for the theory elements of your qualification. The specialist e-learning is split into bite-sized pieces, so you don’t have to do it all in one go. This means you can work through the course online at home, at your own pace. Once you have completed the theoretical elements you will then go on to a scheduled practical assessment.

If you have any questions before applying you can contact us at recruitmentacademy@swimming.org.
