As part of our academy, we are looking to train up swimming teachers in NottinghamApply to join the academy
If you want to become a swimming teacher and enjoy an active and rewarding role, then this is the perfect opportunity for you. We are searching for enthusiastic trainees to start their new career with Nottingham City Council.
The academy gives trainee teachers the chance to embark on a career as a swimming teacher for only £79, compared to the usual cost of over £1,000.
We support trainees through their training journey with membership and free access to our introduction to swimming strokes online CPDs.
In between the courses, there is a period of volunteering with a potential employer to gain practical experience. Trainees also benefit from CPDs to help them develop as well as getting expert advice and support from a mentor to ensure they have the necessary experience for the role and are ready to hit the poolside well equipped to teach.
Teaching Swimming is an active and rewarding role. Work hours are generally part-time and there is a variety of hours available across weekdays, evenings and weekends.
Once qualified, the successful trainees will be employed as swimming teachers and offered ongoing training for continual professional development, including the National Rescue Award for swim teachers and coaches (NRASTC) course which will be an essential requirement for this role. In order to take the NRASTC course, you will need to be able to swim 20m on your front and back.

You don’t need any prior qualifications to apply as you will be supported through your training.
Once you have joined the Academy, you will commence your swimming teacher journey, starting with the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course. You will have approximately 5 hours worth of e-learning to complete for the theory elements of your qualification. The specialist e-learning is split into bite-sized pieces, so you don’t have to do it all in one go. This means you can work through the course online at home, at your own pace. Once you have completed the theoretical elements you will then go on to a scheduled practical assessment.
