This course covers the skills needed to effectively plan, deliver, and evaluate a series of open water training sessions.
Training format
This qualification has been split into two courses: theory and practical.
This course is the first half and covers the theory only.
The first zoom webinar will help you kick-off your studies. You will then have time before the second webinar to complete your online learning.
The specialist e-learning is split into bite-sized pieces, so you don’t have to do it all in one go. This will mean you can work through the course online at home, in between webinars.
You can see the full itinerary below. You will need to attend all sessions and please ensure that you are in a suitable learning environment with strong internet access.
Once you have completed your theoretical training you will then be able to book your practical session.
Course fees
When you start the course and book your online theory, you will pay £ 199.
Once you have finished all the theory, you can book your practical sessions and make your final payment of £ 200.
Who is the course designed for?
Anyone who is a Swim England Coach, Swimming Teacher or Triathlon Coach and who wants to become an independent open water coach.
Course content
The course is delivered through a mixture of online learning, zoom classroom activities. Once you have completed the theory course you can move onto your practical learning, both poolside and in an open water environment.

You must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course.
You must have one of the following qualifications:
- Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate (or equivalent)
- 1st 4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Triathlon (QCF)
- SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming and have experience of swimming in an open water environment
