Swimming Teacher Training – Funded Opportunities

Funded Training Available Now

You could get the knowledge and skills (theoretical training) of your Level 2 Teaching Swimming course funded through the Adult Education Budget with the Sector Skills Academies in Sport project.

Active Apprentice and Vision West Nottinghamshire College launched the Sector Skills Academies for Sport project to offer funding through delivery partners, including the Institue of Swimming.

The project offers you support in starting your career in the sport and physical activity sector. It provides the opportunity to study courses within the industry with the potential to gain valuable, sustainable employment across the sector.

Funding

Funded training is available to all candidates in England that meet the eligibility criteria, and will cover the theoretical knowledge and skills part of your Level 2 Teaching Swimming Theory course.

You can then choose to book a practical assessment if you decide to pursue the career opportunity further. At this point, registration and assessment costs will need to be paid for by either yourself or your employer. The learning sessions alone do not qualify or certificate you as a swimming teacher.

All candidates will need to pay a small administration fee to enrol.

Candidates must:

  • Be aged 19 or over on 31 August 2021
  • Be a UK or EU citizen for three or more years and have the right to abode in the UK
  • Not be on any other government-funded training programme or in full-time education
  • Live within the East or West Midlands – Unfortunately, we cannot currently fund those with postcodes in some Combined Authorities.

If they meet the above, funding is awarded on different levels detailed below, but all candidates will need to pay the enrolment fee plus registration and assessment cost if certification is required:

  1. Unemployed – fully funded
  2. Employed or self-employed but earned less than £4,251 in the last three months – fully funded, (1 payslip will need to be provided)
  3. Employed or self-employed but earned over £4,251 in the last three months – part-funded

To confirm eligibility and the level of funding, candidates will need to complete an eligibility form, where Active Apprentice will assess eligibility for funding. You will also be asked to upload photo identification as part of this process.
