Regions release dates for 2018 development days

Swim England’s regions have released details of their 2018 development days for Masters swimmers to improve their swimming technique.

The development days should suit most levels of Masters swimmer (18 – 100-year olds) who can swim all four strokes (ish).

For specific details of each programme please see the booking links below. They will include a mixture of the following:

  • Land training
  • Pool sessions
  • Talks ranging from the psychology of swimming to diet and nutrition
  • An opportunity to receive individual feedback from a coach, talk to other swimmers, find out what’s going on in your local area and get more involved in the organisation of Masters swimming.

Swim England East Region

The East Region Masters Development Day takes place between 12pm – 6pm and will offer a mixture of sessions to help Masters swimmers, including psychology, strength and conditioning and a 1.5 hour long course pool session.

Places are limited due to facilities available and preference will be given to Swim England members from the East region.

The Swim England East Midland Development Day takes place from 10am – 4:30pm and is open to all Swim England registered Masters swimmers.

Swim England South East Region

There will be a classroom session where stroke basics will be explained followed by two pool sessions all conducted by a qualified coach.

In the pool stroke improvement drills will be practiced and each swimmer’s performance will be analysed and possible improvements identified.
In addition there will be gym sessions with exercises for core strength, mobility and flexibility.
The day will conclude with a panel discussion with Masters world champions’ Jane Asher and Mike Hodgson and National Masters Officer Sharon Lock.

Sue Haigh (South West): “The South West Regional Masters Development Day features the ‘dream team’ of Masters multi-world record holder Jane Asher, motivational speaker & Sports Psychologist Dr Karen Howells and the ASA National Masters and Open Water Officer Sharon Lock.”

Participants from last year’s South West Development day said: “It was an excellent day. The sport psychology lecture was mind-blowing and has dramatically changed the way I train.”

Sharon Perry (East) said: “It’s an opportunity to meet other swimmers from around the region and get in some valuable long course pool time at the start of the long course season.”
