Birmingham Masters claim European relay record

Birmingham Masters laid claim to a new European record in the Men’s 240+ yrs 4x200m Freestyle Relay in session six of the ASA National Masters and Senior Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

The team of Keith Ingram, Graham Short, Mick Marshall and Trevor Clark swam 11:01.82 to win gold medals and scoop their continental record in the process.

There were also two British records in the same event, the first coming in the 120+ yrs age group from Brighton Dolphins’ Andrew Farrell, Shaun Challis, Paul Allen and Kevin Pickard, who dug deep to touch in 8:10.30.

The second came from City of Oxford in the 160yrs+ age group, with a four second lead over the Nottingham Leander team who finished in second. The record was taken in 8:21.01 by Christopher Aust, Nicholas Bridge, Matthew Gomez and David Denny.

There were three individual British records in the last session of day two.

Emma Gage of Trafford Metro made it three records so far at the meet, as she clocked a world record 54.53 to win 100m Freestyle the 25/29yrs age group.

Aimee Ramm of GB Police took a British record in the same event, claiming a gold medal in the 30/34yrs age group in a time of 58.13 while Sally Winter set her second record of the competition, following on from her European record in the 200m Freestyle. The Bishops Stortford swimmer touched in 1:06.45 for a British 55/59yrs record in the 100m Freestyle.
