Hat-trick of 200m Breast golds for Brits in Hungary

Amanda Heath, Diane Ford and Dave Milburn won 200m Breaststroke golds on the penultimate day of the 2017 World Masters Championships in Budapest.

The Brits underlined their class in the breaststroke by adding nine medals to the nine they won in the 100m Breast earlier in the meet.

Heath topped the podium for the first time with her victory in the 60-64 Yrs age group.

The Spencer swimmer came into the event as one of the favourites for the title, having won gold in the 55-59 Yrs age group at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan.

And Heath duly delivered, taking the touch by 1.85 seconds in 3:17.13 to add to the three bronzes she had already picked up in Budapest.

Diane Ford closes in on triple-triple

Diane Ford closed in on a remarkable triple-triple as she took gold in the 70-74 Yrs age group.

The Spencer swimmer won the 50m, 100m and 200m Breast clean sweep in the 70-74 Yrs age group at both the 2014 and 2015 World Championships.

Having already claimed the 100m Breast crown, Ford added the 200m title with a 3:48.13 effort in Budapest.

Southport’s Helen Jenkins joined Ford on the podium with bronze in 3:56.19.

Milburn took his first gold of the meet with victory in the men’s 55-59 Yrs age group.

The Newbury swimmer took the touch with a British record 2:42.52 effort, beating Russia’s Sergei Molodin by 0.97 seconds.

Victory handed Milburn his second podium finish in Budapest, adding to his bronze in the 100m Breast.

Hodgson and Jones return to podium

Guildford’s Mike Hodgson and Cardiff’s Chris Jones also returned to the podium after medals in the 100m Breaststroke.

Hodgson – who won gold over half the distance – claimed silver in the 50-54 Yrs 200m Breast in a British record 2:34.58.

Meanwhile, Jones clocked 2:29.00 for bronze in the 35-39 Yrs age group, repeating his result from the 100m event.

The other three British medals came in the women’s events, courtesy of Helen Gorman, Karen Key and Kathryn Loveys.

Long Eaton swimmer and 200m IM champion Gorman won silver in the 45-49 Yrs age group, stopping the clock on 2:50.07.

Northampton’s Key won bronze in the 40-44 Yrs age group in 2:51.23 while City of Cambridge swimmer Loveys touched in 2:44.88 for bronze in the 30-34 Yrs event.
