Nicola Latty secures 400m IM European record

Nicola Latty of Sub 160 claimed a European record in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley in session three of the ASA National Masters Championships 2016.

Latty was around 26 seconds faster than second place, shaving almost two seconds from the previous record. She touched in 5:21.74.

Dawn Palmer was the second female to claim a record in the 400m IM. The Romford Town swimmer set a new 40-44yrs British record with her time of 5:12.94.

It wasn’t just the women making their marks in the Masters swimming record books. Both Simon Veale and Ian Milne set new British markers in the men’s 400m IM.

Veale of Totnes swam 5:33.84 for his record in the 60-64yrs age group. Milne of Silver City took his in the 65-69yrs age group, touching in 6:09.09 for the gold.

East Leeds take second European relay record

East Leeds underlined their strength in depth as they laid down their second European relay marker of the day.

After meeting the world record in the Mixed 200+yrs 4x50m Freestyle in session two and lowering the European, the team from Leeds looked untouchable in session three.

Julie Hoyle, Paul Clemence, David Emerson and Karen Graham swam a full six seconds faster than second place in the Mixed 4x50m Medley Relay. They touched in a new European 200+yrs age group record of 2:00.27.

Teddington Masters also showed off their prowess in the relay races, claiming their third relay record of the day. Paul Griffin, Leon Smith, Zoe Liokalos and Georgina Heyn claimed a new 120+yrs British record in Mixed 4x50m Medley. They finished in a time of 1:51.18 for gold.

Three British records in 100m Freestyle

There were three British records broken in the men’s and women’s 100m Freestyle events. The first came at the hands of Ben Harkin, securing his second record of the day. The Chesterfield swimmer touched in 51.57 for gold in the 35-39yrs age group.

The final two records of the day were set in the women’s events.

Barnet Copthal’s Christine Porter put in a great swim in the 55-59yrs age group. She had a good body length lead at the touch, finishing with a time of 1:05.34.

Georgia Heyn of Teddington Masters secured the second in the 30-34yrs age group. She touched in 57.13 for her second individual and fourth overall record of the day.
