Swim England to hold National Age Group Championships at alternative venue

Swim England is in talks with two alternative venues about hosting the Open Water National Age Group Championships after it was confirmed Rother Valley Country Park would not be able to stage the event.

The competition was due to be held at Rother Valley on Monday 5 August but blue-green algae was discovered in the lakes and they are both currently closed.

Further testing has revealed the algae has not subsided enough for the championships to be held there.

A Swim England spokesperson said: “It is a real shame we’re having to source an alternative venue for the National Age Group Open Water Championships at such a late stage but the health and safety of all our competitors is of paramount importance.

Confirm new venue as soon as possible

“We are speaking to two alternative venues nearby to Rother Valley so competitors do not have to make alternative accommodation arrangements and further site visits are scheduled at the beginning of next week.

“Our aim is to confirm the new venue as soon as possible next week and we thank everyone for their understanding and patience while these details are finalised.”

Meanwhile, regional qualifier entries for the National Age Group Championships close on Wednesday 24 July at 12 noon.

Anyone who is considering entering the competition is advised to submit their entries via the online entry system as soon as possible.
