Open Water National Age Group Championships venue update

Swim England is working with potential alternative venues for the Open Water National Age Group Championships after blue-green algae was discovered in the Rother Valley County Park lakes.

The competition is due to be held at Rother Valley on Monday 5 August.

After some recent testing of the water, it was found both the main and northern lakes contained blue-green algae.

Both lakes are currently closed while further testing is undertaken.

Appreciate patience and understanding

A Swim England spokesperson said: “We are in daily contact with Rother Valley staff.

“Tests have been taken, the water is being analysed and we will find out the results of these within the next two weeks.

“As the event is just over three weeks away, Swim England is working with potential alternative venues close to Rother Valley as a contingency plan.

“We appreciate the understanding and patience of those who have entered the championships and will share further information over the course of the next week.”
