Challenging relay ends Britain's open water campaign at World Championships

Great Britain’s open water campaign at the FINA World Championships came to an end, with the team finishing 11th in the mixed 5km relay.

Danielle Huskisson, who finished 25th in the women’s 10km earlier this week, led the team on the first 1.25km lap, ensuring Britain were in the mix.

Huskisson was 24.3 seconds behind leaders USA, who were led out by 10km silver medallist Haley Anderson.

Alice Dearing was next into the water for Britain in choppy conditions at the Yeosu EXPO Ocean Park.

With teams able to choose the order of their two male and two female swimmers, Britain were well within reach of the top 10, with Tobias Robinson and Jack Burnell to follow.

The pair chased down a few teams ahead of them, but Burnell was agonisingly unable to claw back the deficit to the 10th-placed Russian team on the final leg.

Britain settled for 11th, 92 seconds behind winners Germany, who edged Italy and USA in a photo finish.

Three of the four British swimmers were part of the team that finished fifth in this event two years ago.
