Marathon swimmers Alice Dearing and Danielle Huskisson finish in world’s top 25

Alice Dearing and Danielle Huskisson both finished in the top 25 in a closely-contested Women’s 10km race at the FINA World Championships.

Dearing improved on her time and position from the 2017 World Championships as she claimed 17th spot in 1:55:05.90 at the Yeosu EXPO Ocean Park, Gwangju, Korea.

That was more than nine minutes quicker than her performance in Budapest two years ago when she clocked 2:04:24.40 to take 25th position.

Dearing was only 14 seconds outside the top 10 that would have guaranteed her qualification for next year’s Olympic Games – and 16 seconds behind the bronze medallist, Italy’s Rachale Bruni (1:54:49.90).

Huskisson improves her time

Meanwhile, Huskisson also improved on her time from 2017 after finishing in 25th spot in a time of 1:55:31.50.

That was more than five minutes faster than her Budapest result when she finished 11th in 2:01:06.10.

In a thrilling race, the gold was won by China’s Xin Xin, who touched home only 0.90 seconds ahead of America’s Haley Anderson after more than six miles of swimming.

Xin clocked 1:54:47.20, with Anderson narrowly behind in 1:54:48.10.
