Valuable experience for Maisie Macartney as she makes World Championships debut

Maisie Macartney gained valuable experience during her FINA World Championships debut.

The Thanet Swim Club member finished 43rd in the Women’s Open Water 5km.

She has already made an impression on the international stage this year having stepped up from the junior to senior Great Britain team.

Macartney, who is part of the Swim England Performance Squad, finished seventh in the 10km at the European Open Water Championships in May and was part of the relay team which won a silver medal at the LEN European Open Water Cup in Israel.

Significant improvement

In an elite field in Gwangju, featuring 2016 marathon Olympic medallists Sharon van Rouwendaal and Rachele Bruni, Macartney kept pace with the frontrunners in the third group.

Her time of 1:01.50.50 showed her significant improvement over the last 12 months.

Macartney will be competing for Britain at the European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships in Racice from 1-4 August.
