National titles and chance to take on the world up for grabs at Age Group Champs

Entrants into the Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships 2020 could earn the chance to take on the best in the world.

For the first time, the competition will double up as a British Swimming qualifying event for the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.

The National Age Group Championships take place at Rotherham’s Thrybergh Country Park on Monday 27 July.

Due to the competition being a qualifier for the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships, in Victoria, Seychelles, from 21-23 August, two of the race distances will change.

The 12 and 13 year olds will still compete over 2km but the 14 and 15 year olds will now race over 5km rather than 3km, while the 16, 17-18 years and 19 years plus competitors will swim a 7.5km course instead of 5km.

Competitive races

Sharon Lock, Swim England National Open Water Development Officer, said: “We’re thrilled that the National Age Group Championships is to double up as a qualifying event for the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships for the first time.

“It adds a bit of extra spice to what is already a hugely popular event and we’re looking forward to staging what promises to be a day of very competitive races.”

Entries for the National Age Group Championships are due to open on Monday 1 June, 2020, and the full selection policy for the World Championships will be confirmed in due course by British Swimming.

A series of regional qualifiers are scheduled to take place across the country and these will be advertised on the Swim England open water event calendar soon.
