New venue confirmed for Open Water National Age Group Championships

Rotherham’s Thrybergh Country Park is the new venue for the Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships.

The event was scheduled to be held at Rother Valley Country Park but blue-green algae was discovered in the lakes and they are both currently closed.

The event will still take place on Monday 5 August.

Thrybergh Country Park is around a 20 minute drive north of Rother Valley, is four miles from the centre of Rotherham and around three miles from junction 34 of the M1.

A Swim England spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to have been able to find an alternative venue for the Open Water National Age Group Championships on the day it was scheduled to take place.

Exciting day of open water swimming

“We wanted to ensure the event took place as close to Rother Valley County Park as possible so it didn’t disrupt accommodation arrangements for competitors or those travelling from our National Summer Meet in Sheffield.

“Our thanks go to those at Thrybergh Country Park for being able to host the championships at such short notice.

“We appreciate the patience of all competitors while we have been making the alternative arrangements and we can now look forward to an exciting day of open water swimming.”

The confirmation pack with all the updated information for competitors will follow shortly.
