Entries are open for the Swim England Open Water Festival 2017, which this year is bigger and better than ever.

The Open Water Festival is taking place from the 30 – 31 July at the picturesque Rother Valley Country Park near Rotherham.

There are now four ways to enjoy the experience, with both fun participation and serious swimming events happening over the course of the two days.

The event encompasses both the Masters and Age Group Open Water Championships. In these events swimmers of all ages battle it out to be crowned national champion in their age group.

There is also the new Team2k event, which is open to everyone aged 12 and over. Family, friends and colleagues – your team can be made up of whoever you like.

Our Open Water and Masters Officer Sharon Lock commented: “The National Open Water Festival is one of the highlights of the year. It brings together the elite side and the family fun aspect of our sport to create an event suitable for everyone.

“This year we have introduced the Team2k event. We want as many people as possible to experience the joy of swimming outdoors.

“And there is no better way to get started than a team event. We hope that the flexibility of the event will draw in lots of newcomers, but also be challenging enough for more seasoned outdoor swimmers.”

Two days of family festival fun

The National Open Water Festival is a celebration of outdoor swimming. Spectators can come along to enjoy the atmosphere free of charge.

You can watch the races as they take place and cheer on whoever you have come along to support.

There will be plenty of other activities to keep you occupied between races. Or if you just want to come along and enjoy the beautiful location, there will be face painting, bouncy castles, stalls and refreshments to keep people of all ages entertained throughout the day.
