Aaron Maddox clinches MC 100m Free gold in Sheffield

Aaron Maddox won MC 100m Freestyle gold after a close final on the opening night of the Swim England National Summer Meet 2017 in Sheffield.

Ealing swimmer Maddox and Northampton’s William Perry were just three points apart at the touch, with Maddox claiming the title with 579 British Disability Points (BDP).

S8 swimmer Maddox touched in a new peresonal best time of 1:06.98 to win the gold medal.

Maddox commented: “It was a great PB. I went a bit slower in the second half of the heats swim. It was more controlled. But I went quicker this evening.

“I’ve got the 50m Free and the 100m Fly coming up. I haven’t been swimming the fly great this season, but I’m just going to go for it as well as I can.”

S6 swimmer Perry took silver with a time of 1:17.62 and 576 BDP, while Mount Kelly’s Finlay Middleton (S8) took bronze with 570 BDP, making it to the wall in 1:07.34.

In the women’s event, Hope Gordon continued her form from the morning’s heats to claim gold.

The S9 swimmer from Carnforth was slightly slower than her heat swim, but made it to the wall in a respectable 1:13.69 (569 BDP).

Cockermouth’s Drew Stables touched in 1:12.38 (546 BDP), and Harriet Dickinson matched her score for her time of 1:12.39. Both S10 classification swimmers received silver medals.

Spence on form for 100m Breaststroke gold

Liam Spence put in a fantastic swim to claim gold in the men’s MC 100m Breaststroke final.

The Kingston-Upon-Hull swimmer took home bronze in the same event at the 2016 Summer Champs, and came back with a point to prove this year.

Spence was second behind Clayesmore swimmer George Kelman-Johns coming into the final, but stepped up a gear in the final. Spence touched in 1:18.13 for a new personal best time, scoring 621 BDP for the title.

Kelman-Johns was just outside of his personal best time set in the heats, claiming silver with a time of 1:18.40 (615 BDP). Chippenham’s James Edwards won bronze in a time of 1:21.74 (543 BDP).

Catherine Marr of UEA Norwich slipped under her personal best time to claim gold in the women’s MC 100m Breast. The SB13 swimmer made it to the wall 0.01 seconds faster than her personal best from the heats. She touched in 1:27.10 for 694 BDP.

Littlehampton’s S6 swimmer Georgia Howell claimed silver in a time of 1:53.33 (588 BDP). The bronze medal went to Grantham’s Hayley Milne. The SB7 swimmer clocked 1:46.42 (575 BDP).
