Elite swimmers enter National Winter Championships

A number of Olympic, World Championship and Commonwealth Games medallists have entered the Swim England National Winter Championships.

Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, James Guy, James Wilby and Sarah Vasey are among the elite swimmers who have said they will be taking part in the three-day event at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool.

Almost 900 swimmers will be competing between 14-16 December and spectators have already snapped up hundreds of tickets – although there is still time to secure seats for the championships.

O’Connor, who won an Olympic silver medal at the 2016 Rio Games and a Commonwealth gold medal on the Gold Coast earlier this year, is that stand out entrant in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley.

She could also go head-to-head with her Team England colleagues Emily Large and Laura Stephens in the Women’s 100m Butterfly.

Olympic silver medallist and European champion Guy is expected to race in the Men’s 100m Butterfly, while Commonwealth Games gold medallist Wilby is due to be in action in the Men’s 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke events.
