Mildred and Thompson win seventh golds of British Summer Champs

Edward Mildred and Joel Thompson closed their exceptional British Summer Championship 2017 campaigns with seven golds each after further medals on the final day of competition in Sheffield.

Northampton swimmer Mildred collected his seventh title in the 13/14 Yrs 200m Freestyle while Thompson won both 200m Free and 50m Fly crowns in the 16 Yrs age group.

Mildred was the only swimmer to break two minutes in the youngest age group in Sheffield, setting a PB 1:58.36 in the final.

The 14-year old later clocked another PB to win silver in the 50m Fly, touching in 26.58.

Mildred closed his meet with nine medals, including golds over 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Free, 100m and 200m Fly, and the 4x200m Free Relay.

Shiverers swimmer Thompson was also on lifetime best form as he scooped the 200m Free title in 1:53.97.

The 16-year old added the 50m Fly crown by the narrowest of margins, clocking a PB 25.79 to touch out Chester-Le-Street’s 50m Back champion Alex Mason (PB 25.80).

There were impressive performances in the older age groups of the 200m Free as Jakob Goodman and Jarvis Parkinson won golds.

Millfield swimmer Goodman became the seventh fastest 16 Year Brit of all time as he clocked 1:50.51 to take the touch in the 17/18 Yrs age group.

Meanwhile, London Aquatics’ Parkinson added to his 200m IM gold with a PB 1:48.45 to win the senior crown.

Oxford swimmer Skelton seals 200m Back gold

City of Oxford’s Nicholas Skelton finally got his hands on gold in the 13/14 Yrs age group, climbing one step up the podium after silvers for 50m and 100m Back.

The 14-year old set a PB 2:11.37 to seal 200m Back gold in the final, finishing ahead of Winchester’s 1500m Freestyle champion Pietro Forconi on a PB 2:11.48.

City of Sheffield’s Charlie Brown set a PB 2:04.48 to complete the 100m and 200m Back double in the 16 Yrs age group while Sheffield teammate Elliot Clogg took the 17/18 Yrs title in 2:02.19.

City of Birmingham’s 100m Back champion Jacob Davies was the first English swimmer home in the 15 Yrs age group with a PB 2:06.74 for silver while Bath University’s Joe Hulme secured the same result in the senior age group with a 1:59.26 effort.
