Ollie Hynd wins 200m IM with season's best in Sheffield

Paralympic champion Ollie Hynd clocked a season’s best as he won MC 200m Individual Medley gold on day four of the British Summer Championships 2017.

The Nova Centurion swimmer set the second fastest time of his career to retain the title in 2:21.36.

Hynd had already picked up the MC 400m Free title in Sheffield, winning with a world record on the opening day.

And the 22-year old knows he may need to lower his world record 2:20.01 to win a third straight world title in the SM8 200m Individual Medley, having been pushed hard by China’s Maodang Song and Haijiao Xu to retain his Paralympic crown in Rio.

City of Manchester’s SM14 swimmer Thomas Hamer won MC silver at Ponds Forge, clocking 2:15.43 in the final, while SM10 swimmer Kahoru Harazawa picked up bronze after his 2:15.21 effort.

The women’s MC title went to Maisie Summers-Newton as the 15-year old added to her 50m Fly gold from the previous night.

The Northampton SM6 swimmer took her 200m IM PB down to 3:04.78 to win gold.

Great Britain’s gold and silver medallists from the Rio 2016 SM14 200m IM came home in second and third in Sheffield.

Paralympic champion Bethany Firth took silver in 2:24.04 while Jessica-Jane Applegate took her PB down to 2:25.75 for bronze.

Paralympic champions Russell and Wylie win 50m Free

A pair of Paralympic champions won the MC 50m Freestyle titles as Hannah Russell and Matt Wylie took home golds.

S12 swimmer Russell won the women’s event in 27.45, joined on the podium by S8 swimmer Millward (31.24) and S6 swimmer Eleanor Robinson (35.19)

Paralympic S9 champion Wylie won the men’s MC 50m Free title, clocking a season’s best in the process.

The City of Sunderland swimmer was just 0.03 seconds shy of his British record, and faster than his time from the Rio 2016 Paralympic final, as he won in 25.72.

City of Derby’s Lewis White continued his excellent form to claim silver.

The S9 swimmer, who broke his own British S9 100m Free record 24 hours earlier, set a 50m Free PB 26.50 in the heats, then touched in 26.55 in the final.

MC 100m Backstroke champion Jon Fox won bronze in 29.20.
