Two golden hat-tricks on day four

Jordan Catchpole and James Woodward claimed golden hat-tricks in the closing events of the day four finals session at the ASA National Summer Championships 2016 while Olivia Herron won her fourth gold of the meet.

Men’s 200m Butterfly finals

Alex Watkinson of Warrington Warriors dominated the Men’s 15yrs 200m Buterfly final, over three seconds ahead of Archie Plowman in second place. Watkinson touched 2:12.27 for the gold.

James Woodward of Potters Bar claimed his golden hat-trick in the 16yrs age group, after a close battle in the last 50m. He managed to keep his lead to finish over a second ahead of Mt Kelly’s Thomas Brew, touching 2:08.70.

Women’s 200m Butterfly finals

Olivia Herron of Salford claimed her fourth gold medal of the competition in the 12/13yrs age group. She swam a new personal best time, clearing two and a half seconds from her previous set in the morning’s heat. She touched 2:23.12 for the title.

“It really feels amazing to achieve my fourth gold medal,” said Herron. “Getting any medal is more than I expected to do. I thought I couldn’t get any quicker than my PB I achieved in the heat, then I got another two seconds quicker in the final.”

In the 17yrs+ age group, Sophie Millen of Wycombe District took the top spot, clocking 2:18.29 to finish almost a second ahead of the competition.

Men’s MC 100m Butterfly final

UAE Norwich swimmer Jordan Catchpole claimed his golden hat-trick after winning the 100m Fly final. The S14 swimmer was just inside of his personal best time set in the morning’s heats, by one hundredth of a second. He clocked 1:02.94 to take his third title.

Men’s 400m Freestyle finals

In the 15yrs age group, Joshua Harris beat his personal best time by three seconds to take the gold medal. The Nova Centurion swimmer added a second gold to his four medal tally, clocking 4:15.01.

“I’m really proud to have achieved my second gold medal,” said Harris. “This year has been great. I hoped to beat my PB which I managed to do by 3 seconds, I was really happy with that.”

Sam Crabtree was denied his second gold medal in the 17yrs age group. The Thanet Swim Club swimmer couldn’t catch Royal Wolverhampton’s Casey Barrett, who maintained his early lead to win with a time of 4:03.21.

Women’s 100m Freestyle finals

Ceara Barber of Hillingdon claimed her first title of the competition, winning the 14yrs 100m Free event by half a body length. She was chased down the last 50m by the rest of the field, all battling for those final podium places. She hung onto her lead to touch in 59.14 for a new personal best time.

Emilia Sansome of Wycombe claimed the 15yrs age group title after an incredibly close final. She had the advantage at the turn, and while 200m Freestyle bronze medallist Alisha Hawkins was battling down the final 50m, Sansome touched 58.20 for the gold.
