Swim England looking for new Youth Advisory Panel members
8 September 2022Swim England’s Youth Advisory Panel will shortly be searching for new members as it looks to continue to share the voice of youth within aquatic sports.
The panel is made up of a group of young people aged between 16 to 25 who meet throughout the year and work on projects to promote and discuss youth engagement.
Members come from each of our aquatic disciplines and provide a youth voice, representing young volunteers on a national level.
The aim of the panel is to help Swim England achieve the vision of a nation swimming and to use the power of the voice of youth to make aquatic sports better for all.
Members need to have an awareness of the needs of young people in sport and be an effective team worker as well as being confident in communicating on the behalf of young people.
It is great if members have experience of the aquatics club environment, but this is not essential.
‘Putting the youth voice at the heart of Swim England’
Swim England’s volunteer manager Lisa Whyte says the panel gives youth a voice and allows young people the opportunity to represent the national governing body.
She said: “Being a part of the youth panel gives individuals the chance to put the youth voice right at the heart of Swim England.
“We are looking for passionate and opinionated individuals from all disciplines that want to break down barriers, tackle issues and promote the youth voice in our sports.”
Charlotte Durham joined the panel aged 17 and went on to become the Media Engagement Lead within the panels leadership team.
She says that being a part of the panel helped her grow as a person.
“Being a panel member has been one of the highlights over the last few years.
“I’ve been so supported by Swim England staff and have grown in confidence, leadership and teamwork skills beyond what I thought I ever would!
“It has hugely impacted other areas of my life in the best kind of way!
“I can’t encourage young people enough to apply for this role. They’ll love being a panel member more than they’ll know!”
