Bristol bring curtain down on ASA Champs with Team gold

Bristol Central took gold in the final event of the ASA National Synchronised Swimming Championships 2014 by defending their 15-17 years Team crown.

Bryony Dale, Charlotte Davis, Charlotte Sissons, Chloe Shortman, Edie Turner, Holly Morgan, Jemima Pike and Rachael Lawrence swam to the Lone Ranger theme tune in a high-energy, well choreographed routine.

With just 0.2 points separating Rushmoor and Bristol after the figures, the Bristol swimmers responded well to the pressure scoring 70.1667 for their routine for a final total of 130.5725.

Pike said: “I thought we did really well. Some of the lifts were a little bit poorer than we wanted them to be but overall we pulled it out the bag.

“It was quite upbeat music, so that helped us stay pumped towards the end when it got a bit tiring.”

Dale added: “We knew it would be close with Rushmoor and it was definitely on our minds going to into the Team event.

“It was useful to be ahead going into the swim and that helped us. Our presentation was the main thing to focus on during the performance but also to keep our energy up towards the end.”

The remaining podium positions went to Rushmoor (128.2009) and Reading Royals (121.3342) who took silver and bronze respectively.

England squad score 75.7333 for Free Routine

The England Talent squad also competed in the Team event, wowing the crowd with a high tempo routine swum in tight patterns with fast travel across the pool.

Genevieve Randall, Jodie Cowie, Emma Critchley, Hannah Randall, Phoebe Bradley-Smith, Esme Lower, Rebecca Richardson and Danielle Cooper scored 75.7333 in their routine for an overall score of 141.3110.

Hannah Randall said: “We choreographed this routine about a year ago and it took about three weeks to learn – but we learnt two different routines in that time frame. We have a great development programme with England Talent, so it really helps us to improve.”

Lower added: “It’s quite a complicated routine and very technical, so towards the end it does get really hard. It’s very different competing here under England Talent rather than your own club; we did a display on Friday and all of us are from different clubs from across the country so we had a lot of support.”
