Federici and Clark will head to Rio 2016

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has today confirmed that Federici and Clark will head to Rio 2016 to represent Team GB at the Olympic Games.

Olivia Federici and Katie Clark will be competing in the duet event in which they secured the quota place for Britain in the qualification event which took place in Brazil in March.

Both athletes have only recently returned to the water after retiring in 2013 following the world championships, and since their return in late 2015, they have been going from strength to strength.

The pair took to the international stage at the London 2016 European Championships where they finished eighth overall, after scoring their highest ever score for their ‘Snakes’ routine. They scored 81.4333 and look to be climbing the international ranks with every performance.

I’m relishing the opportunity to compete in the Olympic environment again

Federici, of Plymouth, said: “It’s a huge honour to be selected for Team GB for the Rio 2016 Olympics which will be my third Games and I am relishing the opportunity to compete in that environment again.

“Having already competed in the pool in Rio we can’t wait to return and show how hard we have worked to improve our routines over the last three months.”

Reading’s Clark added, “It’s exciting to be part of Team GB again after being selected for Rio 2016 for my second Games.

“We’ve continued to work hard for the whole year and we know this isn’t the end point as we are going to strive to be even better in Rio.”

Today’s announcement a testament to their hard work

Karen Thorpe, Synchronised Swimming Team Leader said: “The progress that Katie and Olivia have made since returning to the pool has been really exciting to see. Today’s announcement is a testament to their hard work.

“They are the most experienced athletes and are strong role models for each and every athlete on the programme. Katie and Olivia have always shown a desire to improve and get stronger. I know this won’t change as we move closer to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”
