Gray and Basinger win 13-15yrs Duet gold at NAG Champs

News and Blogs

Mimi Gray and Alyssa Basinger won gold on day one of the Swim England Synchro National Age Group Championships 2017 in Gloucester.

The pair from Reading Royals had been leading the field after the figures in the morning. They had almost three points in hand as they went into the duet free routines.

Swim England Talent Athlete of the Year Gray and her partner executed their routine beautifully. Starting their routine with a bang, they swam to Scolding of the Weak.

The fast paced and snappy movements did not impact on their execution, and they were awarded 67.1000 for their free duet performance.

They finished with an overall score of 131.2459, four points ahead of their team mates, the Blinkhorn sisters.

Gray said: “It’s great to win gold. It shows that all of our hard work has paid off. I hope that I’ll be able to repeat my clean sweep from last year – this event has given me some confidence.”

Basinger added: “We were working towards getting a medal, but it always feels really good when you win gold.”

Blinkhorn sisters make it a Reading one-two

Eleanor and Isabelle Blinkhorn secured a Reading double on the podium. They performed excellently in the final, scoring 64.9333 to rank second highest for their performance.

Combined with their Figures score of 61.3617, their Bella Donna Twist routine to the music from Cirque Du Soleil secured them the silver medal. They scored 126.2950 overall.

The final swimmers to make their way onto the podium were Wallsall’s Olivia Baker and Robyn Swatman. They were less than a point behind in both the Figures and the Free Duet scores. They won bronze with 124.4860.
