Ross on top as Masters shine in Telford

Louise Ross lead the way in the competitive 20-29 Yrs age group to win solo and duet gold for Rushmoor at the 2014 ASA National Masters Synchronised Swimming Championships.

Ross – who is head coach of Rushmoor and will oversee their swimmers at next month’s National Age Group Championships – set the standard in the solo tech event with a 70.830.

She then finished top ranked again in the free routines, scoring 71.182 for an overall score of 142.012.

City of Preston’s Bethan Heap took silver on 132.751 ahead of teammate Shannon McGinty on 130.452.

Heap and McGinty combined for duet silver, scoring 133.315 for their two routines to place behind Ross and April Poulter.

Double gold for Fiona Howarth

In the other age groups, Elizabeth Winter (Seymour), Fiona Howarth (City of Preston), Andrea Holland (Reading Royals) and Jeanne Ansley (City of Leeds) finished top after the free routines in the 30-39 Yrs, 40-49 Yrs, 50-59 Yrs and 70-79 Yrs respectively.

Howarth and Megan Hughes took the 30-39 Yrs duet title, the 40-49 Yrs duet was won by Brighton Dolphins’ Elizabeth Fitzsimons and Victoria Gimson while Seymour’s Susan Innes and Charlotte Lea claimed top spot after the 50-59 Yrs duet free routine.

The respective team events went to Rushmoor (20-34 Yrs), Seymour (35-49) and Brighton (50-64 Yrs).
