Date and venue confirmed for rescheduled National Age Group Championship finals

The finals of the cancelled Swim England Water Polo National Age Group Championships have been rescheduled.

Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool will host the U17s and U19s boys and girls championships finals on Spring Bank Holiday Monday (27 May).

Due to the time constraints of fitting the championships finals into one day, the plate competition will unfortunately now not take place.

The championships had to be cancelled on the weekend of 13-14 April due to safety reasons after a ceiling light fitting at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre shattered, causing glass to fall into the 50m pool where the games were being played.

Results from the three completed cup semi-finals games in the U17s girls and U17s boys event will still stand.

Thanks for patience

The remaining U17s boys semi-final between West London Penguins and Nova Centurion, which was abandoned after the light shattered, will be replayed.

Ekaterina Boyd, Swim England head of events, said: “It was always our aim to reschedule the National Age Group Championships after they had to be cancelled due to safety reasons and we’re delighted to be able to announce they will take place at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge at the end of May.

“We’d like to thank Ponds Forge for being able to fit the competition in and to the teams and spectators for their patience while we worked to reschedule the event.”

The schedule and further event information for Monday 27 May will be finalised as soon as possible and circulated to teams and also published on swimming.org.

Anyone with any questions about the event should email nationalevents@swimming.org.
