'Exciting opportunity' as search for senior women's national team head coach begins

Swim England is looking to recruit a new head coach for its senior women’s national team.

Norman Leighton, Swim England water polo talent officer, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for a talented coach to take the reigns with a high quality group of athletes.

“The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work with Swim England and the wider national team coaching staff to shape the future of the national programme.”

The appointment of a senior women’s head coach will see a further addition to the national programme following the appointment of staff to both the women’s and men’s U19 teams.

For the women’s U19 team, Nick Hume has been re-appointed as head coach and he will be supported by coaches Simon Tomlinson and Sue Webb.

Kirstie Simpson has been appointed as the new team manager.

Providing valuable experience

For the men’s U19 team, head coach Dean Walker is joined by coach Giulio Sartorello and team manager Martin Atkinson.

Andy Fuller, Swim England water polo development manager, said: “With the U19s, we have been looking to capacity-build the number of coaches around the programme.

“They will support the head coach, drawing upon their experience where necessary and also providing valuable experience for their ongoing involvement in the programme.”

Whilst the appointment process for the senior women’s programme is underway, Hume will act in an interim capacity and select a squad ready to compete in the EU Nations in May.

The newly-appointed head coach will then have the opportunity to prepare fully for the team’s involvement in the Turbo Cup in Barcelona in September.
