Figures draw for Synchro National Age Group Championships 2019 confirmed

The figures draw for the Swim England Synchronised Swimming National Age Group Championships 2019 has been confirmed.

Hundreds of the country’s best young synchronised swimmers are taking part in the event at the Manchester Aquatics Centre on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 March.

As always, the figures competition will kickstart the championships and the draw is:

  • 12 and unders: Group 3 – Swan and Water Drop
  • 13-15: Group 1 – Jupiter and Oceanea.

The National Age Group Championships is the top level domestic competition for young synchronised swimmers.

This year, the age groups eligible to take part are 9-10 years, 11-12 years and 13-15 years – the 15-18 years category has been moved into the Swim England Synchro National Championships taking place at the end of April.

Four competitions at championships

There are four types of competition at the National Age Group Championships:

  • All athletes will begin the competition by completing Figures where they will receive a score based on their performance of four ‘figures‘ which increase in difficulty for each age group.
  • The Solo competition is open to the top 12 athletes from these figures rankings who wish to enter in each age group.
  • The Duet competition is open to the top 12 athletes, and Mixed Duet competition is open to all athletes, but pairs must consist of two swimmers from the same club for both competitions.
  • The Team competition features between four and eight swimmers, and the Combo competition features between six and ten swimmers (all from the same club in both competitions).

Tickets and merchandise

Tickets can also be purchased on the day at the venue, priced at £10 for adults (or £16 for a two-day pass) and £9 per day for concessions (£14.50 for the weekend).

Competition programmes are also available to purchase in advance for £4 each.

There will also be a range of merchandise on sale at the event including synchro water bottles, phone cases, bags, pens, pins, event hoodies and the final edition of Swimming Times magazine.

Last year’s competition

The top athletes often aim for the ‘clean sweep’ of golds over Solo, Duet and Team for their age group.

While it didn’t happen in 2018, there were impressive performances by Carla Pietrafesa (U12), Roybn Swatman (13-15) and Greta Hampson (15-18) as they won Solo and either Duet or Team golds respectively.
