Synchro duet impress in free final

Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe achieved their second highest international score of the year and their highest in a senior competition for their synchro duet final routine.

The pair finished 11th in the European Championships Duet Free Final, at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, scoring 82.0000.

Russia took home the gold with 96.7000 ahead of Ukraine on 93.4000. Italy had to settle for bronze with 92.1333 points.

Shortman and Thorpe have been focusing on junior events throughout 2018 and the move from junior to senior competition has been difficult but they have consistently made finals.

Quest for Olympic qualification

Karen Thorpe, Synchro Team Leader, is optimistic about their progression after this competition.

She said: “The duet will be starting to train in a centralised programme as of September when they start to study at the same school.

“The school has organised the study of their A-levels in the morning and have allowed them to use the school facilities to train in the afternoon.

“2019 is set to be a crucial year for the duet to make improvements and start on their quest for Olympic qualification in 2020.”
