Webinars will help artistic swimming coaches improve athletes’ technique

Artistic swimming coaches can still book places on two webinars which will help them develop skills to improve their athletes’ technique.

The workshops are led by national coaches and are being staged following a number of successful online courses.

Great Britain Flexibility Coach Ali Wayne will lead on How to Develop and Improve Flexibility, Mobility and Splits on Friday 2 October between 6pm and 7.30pm.

This will cover physiology, different types of stretching to achieve the best result in a safe and progressive way, injury prevention plus different methods and practical exercises.

Paola Basso, the National Duet Coach, will be supported by British duet athlete Kate Shortman when she delivers How to Improve Feet and Knee Extension on Friday 30 October from 6pm to 7pm.

This will show how to improve mobility in ankles, feet and knees, developing strength to hold extension throughout a routine/figures and what is meant by muscle tension.

Karen Thorpe, Swim England Artistic Swimming Manager, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to these webinars and there is a real appetite for coaches to develop their knowledge while full training can’t take place.

“The beauty of these webinars is you can relax in your own home and listen to our experts talk about a series of topics that will help all coaches develop the necessary skills to improve their athletes.

More developed due to demand

“They are designed to give the techniques to help develop out of the water. There are limited spaces available to keep it exclusive and small enough to be able to answer any questions so if you’re interested in signing up, you should do so as soon as possible to avoid missing out.”

Three athlete webinars were sold out in less than 24 hours – but more are being developed due to the demand.

Led by national coach Katie Clark and GB athletes, the fully-booked sessions cover advanced sculling and sculling preparation for GB trials, flexibility and splits for all and feet and extension for all.

Karen added: “The athlete webinars have proved to be extremely popular so we’re working on more sessions and will announce details of when these are available in the near future.”

Available places on the coach webinars can be booked via the Swim England online shop.
