Duet Synchro athletes at Mallorca training camp

The Duet synchro athletes training for qualification to the 2016 Olympics travelled to a Mallorca training camp last month (11-17 November) to work with double Olympic silver medallist at London 2012, Andrea Fuentes.

Monthly Mallorca training camps are part of the team’s preparation for the Olympic Games Synchronised Swimming Qualification Tournament 2016 in March next year.

During the camps Genevieve Randall, Jodie Cowie, Katie Clark, and Olivia Federici work with former Spanish Olympian, Fuentes, to fine tune their skills and learn from her wealth of international experience.

Mallorca Training Camp: The Focus

The focus of this month’s Mallorca training camp was to strengthen the key elements of both their Technical and Free routines as well as getting the girls to give each other feedback. The team also took part in yoga sessions to relax and to learn the importance of imagery and positive thinking when heading into a competition.

For this trip, Mitch Gallacher, coach and team manager at Rushmoor Synchro SC, was given the opportunity to travel with the team and to learn from the experience of working with Fuentes.

Gallacher said: “Andrea certainly knows her stuff! The swim sets were interesting and nothing I had experienced before. She was getting them to work hard with a speed lap followed by a synchro lap and a figure before the end.

“Andrea also swapped the swimmers in and out of a top Duet depending on how well they did in their skills session. This definitely got them pushing themselves to be the best!

“By the end of the camp you could see how much each swimmer had improved both individually and as a team. Onwards to Rio.”
