International success for artistic swimmers across busy summer schedule

Great Britain’s and England’s artistic swimmers have enjoyed a busy few weeks of international competition, producing medal-winning performances at the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup Super Final in Canada, gaining valuable experience at the Junior European Championships in Munich and securing podium finishes at the Hungarian Open.

Golden performances at World Cup Super Final

The summer got off to a flying start at the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup Super Final in Toronto, Canada, from 19-21 June, where Izzy Thorpe, Kate Shortman and Ranjuo Tomblin helped Great Britain challenge for gold medals against some of the world’s best artistic swimmers.

Tomblin was one of the standout performers of the competition, collecting four gold medals. Alongside Thorpe, he claimed victory in both the Mixed Technical Duet and Mixed Free Duet events, while also topping the podium in the Men’s Technical Solo and Men’s Free Solo competitions.

Thorpe added another medal to the British tally with Shortman, as the pair secured silver in the Women’s Technical Duet.

Valuable European experience in Munich

Attention then turned to the Junior European Artistic Swimming Championships in Munich, Germany, which took place from 30 June to 4 July.

A British team featuring a number of England swimmers recorded several encouraging performances against Europe’s strongest junior athletes.

The Team Free event saw Anastasia Joyce Appleby, Loya Cenkci, Hannah Gibbons, Molly Isabella Hussey, Pia Lanham, Imogen Sutton, Magdalena Townsend and Eve Young combine to finish fifth overall.

The Team Technical competition brought another valuable learning opportunity, with Appleby, Cenkci, Hussey, Lanham, Francesca Sofia Pringle, Sutton, Townsend and Young placing 11th.

Meanwhile, Cenkci and Young teamed up in the Technical Duet event, securing a top-10 finish with ninth place.

England swimmers shine at Hungarian Open

The international schedule concluded at the Hungarian Open in Budapest from 2-5 July, where England swimmers competed under the England flag.

Several swimmers returned home with medals, led by Victoria Sharashkina, who claimed bronze in the Free Solo event.

Lola Huett and Frankie Klym also stepped onto the podium after earning bronze in the Free Duet competition.

England’s Team Free squad of Keva Ennis, Lola Huett, Amelie Jeary, Christina Kapiris, Frankie Klym, Aaron Lee and Victoria Sharashkina finished sixth overall in a competitive field.

The team competed at the Hungarian Open after earning the opportunity through their victory in the Youth Team event at the Swim England National Age Group Championships, with the NAGs champions invited to Budapest to gain valuable international competition experience.

With medals, strong appearances and impressive team performances across three major events, it has been an encouraging few weeks for Great Britain’s and England’s artistic swimmers.
