Kate Shortman’s stock rises with top 10 finish at World Championships

Kate Shortman claimed a top 10 finish in the women’s solo technical final at the FINA World Championships in Gwangju.

Competing in the event at this level for the first time in her fledgling career, the 17-year-old again proved her ability to mix with the best senior synchronised swimmers in the world.

Shortman improved her preliminary round score by almost half a mark, scoring 83.9548 to finish 10th in a competitive final.

That total was just shy of her personal best, which was set at the European Junior Championships in Prague last month.

It continues a brilliant year for Shortman, in which she has regularly raised the bar on both the junior and senior international stage.

She will return to action in the solo free preliminary round on Monday 15 July, before teaming up with Isabelle Thorpe for the duet free the following day.
