Hundreds expected to take part in first Level X Artistic Swimming land games

Hundreds of artistic swimmers are expected to take part in the inaugural Swim England Level X Artistic Swimming virtual land games.

The event will involve entrants filming a routine which will then be scored by a team of judges.

Videos from the top 10 in each category will then be streamed live on Facebook on Saturday 27 February and the winners announced.

All of Swim England’s affiliated artistic swimming clubs are being invited to put forward one male and female representative in each of the six age categories to take part in the event.

They are 12 and under, Youth (13-15 years), Junior (15-18 years), Senior (15+), 25-40 years and 41+.

Athletes may participate in one age group only and there will be a maximum of 60 competitors in each category.

The winners of each category will receive an invitation to join a virtual training session with one of the England Artistic Swimming squads.

Karen Thorpe, Swim England artistic swimming manager, said: “At a time when everyone is unable to train in pools, we have been looking at creative ways of engaging with our clubs and members.

Relish the chance

“The first-ever Level X Artistic Swimming event is an exciting opportunity for our members to showcase the skills they have developed during lockdown – and we hope clubs and athletes will relish the chance to take part.”

It is open to all athletes who are a registered Swim England Category 2 member.

An email has been sent to all clubs inviting them to send one representative to an information evening on Thursday 4 February when the full details on how to register and submit videos will be explained in detail.

Clubs which have not received the invitation should email [email protected] with their contact information.
