Next generation looking to make their mark at National Age Group Championships

The nation’s capital awaits as the GoCardless Swim England Artistic Swimming National Age Group and Youth Championships head to the London Aquatics Centre for the first time.

More than a decade on from the Games in London – and off the back of Great Britain’s first Olympic medal in the sport in Paris – this weekend will see the next generation of athletes looking to make their mark on the historic stage.

Around 200 swimmers from 29 different clubs will be in action across solo, duet and team competitions as the event kickstarts the national governing body’s 2025 calendar.

Thirteen national titles are up for grabs from Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 March, where they’ll also be some showcase displays from members of Great Britain’s artistic swimming squad.

Great Britain’s Technical Duet, Technical Team and Mixed Duet will all be in the pool as they look to inspire the future stars of the sport, following two impressive golds at the World Cup earlier this month.

The action begins however with the all-important figures competition, where athletes complete four figures that increase in difficulty for each age group (12 & Under and Youth).

Those results decide both the first of our national champions and the top 12 individuals and duets that will take part in the solo and duet competitions.

Those figures total will be combined with those from the routines in each of the events throughout the weekend where we’ll also see mixed duet, free team and free combination competitions.

Ahead of the competition getting underway, this year’s figures draw has been confirmed and is as follows:

Youth category

Group A has been selected meaning each swimmer will be expected to perform:

  • Flying Fish Spinning 360
  • Cyclone Open 180
  • Barracuda Airborne Split Spin up 180
  • Swordfish Straight Leg Ariana Rotation.

12 & Under category

Compulsories: Straight Leg Ballet Leg, Barracuda

In addition to the compulsory figures, Group 3 has been selected meaning each swimmer will also be expected to perform:

  • Kip
  • Swanita spinning 180
