Salford claim 19yrs and under Combo on final day in Gloucester

Defending champions City of Salford won gold in the 19yrs and under Combination event, which had 10 swimmers entered in their team starting line-up.

They swam to ‘Tell Me Ma’ by Sham Rock. A previous routine from 2014 inspired the choice of song and theme. The girls performed to ‘Lord of the Dance’ and discovered they really enjoyed swimming to an Irish Theme.

The team swam second and their Irish themed routine began with a lovely starting position. They had a really impressive lift to start their routine, which showed exceptional control. Their subtle changed in formation and great use of pace changes had the audience cheering and applauding. They scored 59.1333 to take the top spot on the podium.

Lauren Blissett commented on the team’s performance: “It feels amazing to win a gold medal, we’ve worked so hard and it’s paid off. It is honestly the best feeling.

“We train three times a week and our coach Jess helps us out all the time, teamwork makes the dreamwork.”

City of Preston show skill in their Cirque Du Soleil routine.

City of Preston Aquatics were second after their interpretation of the music from Cirque Du Soleil. Their performance was well-timed with some impressive and intricate choreography. The team finished strongly, scoring 57.6667 for silver.

Gateshead were third, scoring 54.5000 for their Madonna – ‘Vogue’ themed routine, which took inspiration from the 80s music video. They made good use of the pool space and had some clever choreography which really captured the essence of their theme.
