Staples and Saunders take gold in 12yrs and under Duet

Madeline Staples and Rebecca Saunders secured a second gold medal for Reading Royals after winning the 12yrs and under Duet at the NAG Champs in Gloucester.

The pair stood out in their Free Duet performance, and moved up from second place in the Figures to take the title. Their upbeat routine to a remix of Sucker Punch by Tangle & Mateusz vs Lele Troniq was well received by the crowd.

The girls showed great use of the pool space and got excellent height in the figures. They scored 56.4333 to take their overall score to 115.7054.

Staples said: “It feels really good to win gold. We’ve been working hard all year, so it’s great that all the work has paid off. We’ve got the solo and team events coming up tomorrow. I’m not sure how I’ll do, the solo is going to be competitive.”

Saunders added: “We were aiming for gold, as we won gold at regionals so that was our target.”

Baker and Alves put in sterling effort for silver

Walsall synchronised swimmers Taliah Alves and Georgia Baker also moved up a place from their third in the Figures competition. The girls only just made the second place on the podium with a half a point lead. They scored 54.2333 for their exciting rendition of Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman. This took their total to 113.1512.

Third place went to Florence Ford and Lily Halasi of London Regional. They were raised from fourth after their Trafford rivals received a penalty. The pair scored 55.3667 to take their overall to 112.4996.
