Staples wins gold in 12yrs and under Solo

Madeleine Staples secured her second gold medal of the competition, scooping up the 12yrs and under Solo title on day two of the Swim England Synchro National Age Group Championships 2017.

Staples, who won Duet gold with partner Rebecca Saunders on day one in Gloucester, impressed again in the Solo. Her expressive interpretation of songs from the Hunger Games soundtrack showed great technical ability.

Staples looked in control throughout the performance, making excellent use of the pool space.

She scored 60.2000, just under two points higher than her rivals. She took the title with an overall score of 119.4561.

Commenting on her medal, Staples said: “It feels really good. I wasn’t really expecting it so I’m very pleased with myself.

“Competing against Rebecca is really good because it makes us more competitive.”

Saunders secures Reading one-two

Saunders was not far from her teammate’s overall score as she secured her second medal of the competition. She was ahead of Staples after the Figures competition, sitting behind overall Figures winner Evie Walker.
