Chalfont Otters Swimming Club has an exciting opportunity for a passionate, driven coach to join us and continue to support the development of our swimming programme operating in Buckinghamshire as our new Assistant Head Coach. Along with the Head Coach and Committee, you will have a pivotal role in the direction and success of the club moving forward.

About us:

Chalfont Otters attracts a range of swimmers, from ages 3 to 18+, hosting multiple County, Regional and National Champions, with finalists at this year’s British Championships. This is paired with a stable, and steadily growing membership base.

At Chalfont Otters we care about being a place:

  • For everyone to enjoy swimming.
  • That helps all reach their own potential.
  • Where swimmers can perform at the highest level.

Our ethos is really important: we truly believe in delivering high-quality coaching, within an inclusive, low-pressure environment, focused on the holistic development of our athletes. Our goal is to be renowned for developing independent, motivated and technically excellent swimmers across our whole club.

The successful applicant will coach across all our competitive squads, with direct responsibility for our Competitive Development 2 (CD2) squad. This squad hosts swimmers performing at County and Regional levels, with several National prospects, including multiple County Champions. Not only will you have a chance to work with some exciting, rapidly developing swimmers, but also to develop your own career. As a club, we encourage and support our coaches to undertake additional training and qualifications to benefit their professional development, which will help you achieve your goals.

You will primarily work with our Head Coach, Alex Bowsher to deliver a high-quality, performance training programme, in a positive and nurturing way. Importantly, this partnership would allow you to have a key influence in the direction of the programme and how your role evolves.

We are flexible in our requirements of working hours (13-21 hours a week) plus paid administrative duties and gala attendance, as agreed with the Head Coach.  There is scope for teaching, 1:1 coaching, training camps abroad and home camps/clinics to be additional sources of income.

Chalfont Otters operates from four pools: our home pool at Chalfont Leisure Centre (Chalfont St Peter), and from Maltman’s Green School (Gerrards Cross), Chilterns Lifestyle Centre (Amersham), with long course training at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex (Hillingdon).

 About you:

You will become a key member of the Club’s management team. We’re looking for leadership, enthusiasm, inspiration, commitment, motivation and somebody who can work with our coaching team, friendly committee, swimmers and volunteers. The ideal candidate should be someone who is keen to improve the performance of our squads, grow the club membership base and maximise the potential and enjoyment of all our swimmers.

The successful candidate will need to have excellent time management skills with a keen eye for detail. To succeed in the role, you will need to be proactive in planning and delivering your sessions, with great communication skills to be able to liaise with the club membership.

About the role:

  • Alongside our Head Coach, be a leader to our coaching team of 10, to oversee the training and development of our teaching, Junior Development, and Competitive squads.
  • Own the scheduling and delivery of squad sessions; communicating with membership where required.
  • Be the lead coach for the Competitive Development 2 Squad.
  • Be a key member of our club and work with the Head Coach to deliver on our club vision, attending meetings where required.
  • Help in the development of our coaches to ensure our high standards are maintained throughout the club and that swimmers develop at every level.
  • Support the Head Coach to develop a competition calendar, and attending galas and leagues to support your swimmers.
  • Be an ambassador for the club through your leadership, commitment and modelling of the behaviours expected in our club policies.
  • Be the first line of contact for CD2 parents.
  • Lead or assist with Junior League selections and related tasks – communicating with our fixtures team in a timely manner.
