Celebrating a Lifelong Commitment to Swimming: Meet Heidi, an Inspirational Swim Teacher

At 80 years old, Heidi, a dedicated swim teacher at West Park Leisure Centre in Nottingham and at Legacy Leisure in partnership with Parkwood Leisure, she continues to inspire swimmers and colleagues alike with her passion and expertise. With decades of teaching experience—so many years she’s lost count—Heidi has become a beloved figure in the swimming community.

Specialising in all Swim England Learn to Swim Stages, Rookie Lifeguard, one-to-one lessons, and adult classes. Heidi’s fun and knowledgeable approach leaves a lasting impression. During a recent Level 1 Swimming Assistant course, she served as a role model for aspiring swim teachers, sharing valuable tips and advice that resonated with both learners and pupils.

In her final Saturday session, Heidi prepared her pupils for the transition to a new teacher, encouraging them to respect their new instructor and showcase their swimming skills. While stepping back from weekend teaching, Heidi will continue her vital role during two evening sessions each week.

Her story highlights the profound impact of dedicated professionals in shaping lives and fostering a love of swimming.
