Aidan Turner and Kaden Frampton win gold in Boys 2k races

Northumberland and Durham’s Aidan Turner and Millfield’s Kaden Frampton won gold in the Boys 2k races at the Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships.

The pair were both successful at Rotherham’s Thrybergh Country Park as Turner won the title in the Boys 13 Years with Frampton winning the 12 Years race.

Turner comes back from fractured wrist to win gold

Aidan Turner won the Boys 13 Years 2k race title in a time of 26.13 in a strong display from the young swimmer.

He asserted himself clear of the pack as he took home the crown by 28 seconds ahead of Wycombe District’s Monty Smith.

Turner, who fractured his wrist two weeks ago, said it was the thought of winning that kept him going as he led the pack throughout the race.

He said: “At the start it was tough, then I took the lead and kept it up the whole way but my arms were on fire.

“The thought of winning kept me going, that was just in my head, I’ve been training really hard this year and I fractured my wrist a couple of weeks ago so to win is great.

“I hope to come back again next year and medal again.”

Smith won out a close battle for the silver medal ahead of Beckenham’s Eddie Evans who finished three seconds further back.

Wycombe’s Smith set a time of 26.41 with Evans finishing in 26.44.

Frampton takes title by seven milliseconds in thrilling finale

Kaden Frampton won gold by just seven milliseconds in the Boy’s 12 Years 2k race.

Millfield’s Frampton finished in a time 28.14.240 as just beat Dominik Bartoletti of TigerSharks to the line by the narrowest of margins.

Zac Baughan-Withington from Kingston Upon Hull won bronze as he was just two seconds off the leading duo.

Baughan-Withington set a time of 28:16 as he finished a further five seconds clear of Wycombe District’s Benjamin Macdougall in fourth.

On his performance Frampton said: “It was very good, I should’ve stuck behind Dominik (Bartoletti ) and the leaders for the first lap and a half but then I started to speed up and overtake them.

“The last few metres were really close but I felt good in the race.”

Frampton is competing in his first nationals event and he is excited to come back next year and defend his title.

“It’s been a great day. Today was my first nationals and I’m really looking forward to coming back next year and I’m going to work hard to win gold again.”
