City of Liverpool emerge as top club after a successful outing at Rother Valley

City of Liverpool emerged as the top club at the GoCardless Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships 2025.

After a successful outing at Rother Valley Country Park, the club from the North West took home a total of three medals – two golds and one silver.

It was a strong start, with two podium finishes within the first two races of the day, the Open/Male and the Female 16 years 7.5k events.

Ollie Lambert opened City of Liverpool’s account after an extremely close finish between three swimmers.

After a final push down the home straight and a photo finish, Lambert was awarded the silver medal with a time of 1:28.16.

Maidenhead’s Lucas Bryant took the spoils in that one to earn gold, with Newcastle’s Aidan Turner receiving the bronze medal.

Taking the first gold for City of Liverpool was a surname synonymous with the city, as Amelia Gerrard made sure the lead didn’t slip away in the final moments of her race as she went on to secure victory in a 1:33.52.

Newcastle’s Katy Otterson and Sophie King of Swindon Dolphins completed the podium in second and third place respectively.

Securing the top club title for City of Liverpool was Thomas Rickels in the Open/Male 14 years 5k race.

The result meant the youngster has claimed a quadruple of distance medals as he added his gold in the 5k to his first place finishes in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events at the Speedo Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships earlier in the week.

Rickels recorded a time of 55:31 in the open water event, with Jack Waterson the next to finish. A tie for bronze saw both Archie Ainslie and Joshua Hutchinson collect a medal.
