Hayley Davis completes clean sweep and Nottingham Leander do relay double

Otter swimmer Hayley Davis was a standout performer as she completed a clean sweep of gold medals at the GoCardless Swim England Open Water National Masters Championships 2025.

She was the only English swimmer to win gold in the 5km, 3km and 1km events throughout the day of competition.

Competing in the 40-44 years age group, Davis begin her golden hat-trick with victory in the longest event of the day, the 5km race.

A time of 1:07.48 saw her finish ahead of Trafford Metro’s Rebecca Lennon (1:09.15) who took silver, with Deepings swimmer Laura Hardy (1:14.58) taking bronze.

From the longest event to the shortest one – the 1km race was up next for Davis.

With a quick recovery from her morning effort, the Otter swimmer powered to the finish in her second race of the day to make it two from two.

Completing the podium this time around was Laura Kerrigan of C P Masters and Borough of Newham swimmer, Alaine Tsang.

Finally, determined to complete a successful clean sweep, Davis finished three minutes ahead of her nearest competitor in the 3km race.

She recorded a time of 40:56 and was followed by Stratford Sharks’ Katie Wilcox in second and Tigersharks’ Joanne Blount in third.

The only other competitor to complete a clean sweep was Scottish swimmer Brian Bain of Silver City Blues in the Open 65-69 years age group.

Leander lead the way in relays

The relay event, which made its debut at last year’s competition and is swam over 4x400m, closed out the championships.

Nottingham Leander ended the day on a high after claiming double gold in the relay. They finished on top in both the Open 120-159 and the 240-279 age groups.

Their 120-159 years team set the fastest time of all the age groups with 23:55 to win gold, with Trafford Metro the silver medal-winning team in that category.

City of Lincoln secured the bronze medal and were the only other club to win two medals during the relays.

Their 200-239 years team also added silver to the club’s collection.

Nottingham Leander’s second relay gold came from the oldest age group and in a time of 32:41.

Overall, more than 170 medals were awarded throughout an action-packed day of fun and competitive racing at Rother Valley.
