Swim England release Open Water National Age Group Championships event conditions

Swim England has released the entry conditions for the 2023 Open Water National Age Group Championships.

The competition takes place at Thrybergh Country Park in Rotherham on 29 July 2023 and welcomes the nation’s best up and coming open water swimmers to compete for national titles.

Thrybergh hosted last year’s running of the event where Wycombe District came away with the top club award after their swimmers won seven medals across the day.

Swim England’s Open Water National Age Group Championships contain races over three distances: 2km, 3km and 5km.

Swimmers aged 12 and 13 compete in 2km races, 14 and 15 year olds race 3km, while those aged 16 and over complete in the 5km race.

And this year’s competition will see Swim England adopt the new rules from World Aquatics regarding the use of wetsuits in the event.

The new rules state that wetsuits are compulsory for competition if the water temperature is below 18°C and are otherwise not permitted if the water temperature is above 18°C.

Further information about this year’s Championships will be released in due course.
